Hooters I Have Known

I carefully plan my quarterly visits with Dr. Kristen in Auburn for early Friday mornings. This allows me to get over to Columbus, Georgia in time for lunch at Hooters when there is a full staff present. Montgomery is one example of a city overrun by ubiquitous "Wing Places". Mexican restaurants are a close second with more opening each month. Wings at the wing places are puny. Hooters wings are big, breaded and meaty. Nothing comes close... not ever Buffalo Wild Wings. Wings, food in general, atmosphere, television sets... nothing beats Hooters. This visit was from June 2018. I could swear these young ladies are getting taller and taller.

More Time Has Passed or "Hooters I Have Known"

You get busy in life. There's always something to divert your attention away from blogging and these past few years have been no exception. I have created and moderate several Facebook Groups in addition to promoting our own farm in central Alabama. It's easy to pop into Facebook, leave a posting or comment, then move on to other things. Drive-by posting as Rush would put it. As there is no longer a Hooters in Montgomery, Alabama, I have to get my wings elsewhere. Columbus, Georgia is a favorite spot. I have dined there since the current site opened around 1994 and the Columbus Mall location before that. The Adams Farm Road Hooters was renovated in 2017 and it's a lovely place to stop and have some wings. The cables where orders used to glide from the dining area ("ORDER IN!") to the kitchen are gone. It was always fun watching the hanging clips travel back and forth and I miss that. One of my doctors, whom I see once a quarter, is located in Auburn, Alabama. I will make a Friday morning appointment with Kristen, my PA. By the time my appointment is over and by the time I get to Columbus from Auburn taking into account the time zone change (from Central to Eastern), it's lunch time. This was one such lunch in June 2017.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun or "Hooters I Have Known"

I must have been busy. It's been five years since my last posting. A lot has happened since then. For now, I'll give you the executive summary. Lost 180 lbs. Lost a leg. Still go to Hooters.

Culhane's Irish Pub

My new favorite Irish Pub in Atlantic Beach is Culhane's. They were featured recently on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins And Dives with Guy Fieri. I've tried several dishes and it will take me a while to get through the menu. This is the Guinness Beef Stew made with a whole pitcher of Guinness. My server is Macon who, like me, is a Virginian. She grew up in Richmond just up I-64 from me in Hampton. If you look closely in the upper right corner, you can see the Guy Fieri "Guy Ate Here" stamp on the wall.

Hooters I Have Known

I had Labor Day lunch at the Jacksonville Southside Hooters. There weren't many customers in attendance... they must have all been at the beach. I ordered the Lots A Tots with jalapeno peppers. What I got was guacamole instead. I had to ask for jalapenos on the side. The Varsity must have had the day off. HG Danielle was delightful and entertaining. There weren't many other customers to care for so I got extra attention. I was fortunate to have gotten a good photographer for my traditional photo with the staff. Two was all we could summon but two was plenty.

To Vespa Or Not To Vespa

Scooter, anyone?

This is a Vespa GTS300 Super on display at the Jacksonville Scooter Superstore, a Vespa/Aprilia/Moto Guzzi dealer. I think this red one looks ok but I think a yellow one would look great.

Indy Mile Flat Track Race

Saturday night of MotoGP weekend, we attended the Indy Mile flat track races at the one mile dirt track at the Indiana Fairgrounds. The racers turn their motorcycles by powersliding the rear ends towards the outside line and sliding through the corners.

One of the more entertaining aspects of the evening was the fellow waving the flags. He really got into his work. The flags would start waving early... when the racers were in the third turn out of sight of the flagman. Must be a momentum thing.

Presidential Lunch Daytona Beach, FL

I hosted the first Internet BMW Riders' Presidential Lunch of January, 2009 at the Hooters in Daytona Beach, Florida across from the Daytona International Speedway. I was joined by several local BMW owners and it was the first and last time we were served by Maria, an international trainer for Hooters.

Presidential Lunch Daytona Beach, FL

I hosted a special Labor Day Internet BMW Riders' Presidential Lunch on Saturday at the Daytona Beach Hooters. I was hoping to see HG Maria but she has moved on to be a surfer gal. Autumn and the other HGs took good care of the assembled Presidents. They also sang a birthday song for a lucky young six-year-old.

MotoGP Indianapolis 2009

MotoGP motorcycle racing was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the second year. It was a weekend full of thrills and spills. World Champ Valentino Rossi lowsided while attempting to catch his teammate, Jorge Lorenzo (who won the race). Lorenzo celebrated in what is becoming an Indy tradition... climbing the fence.

Hooters I Have Known

In honor of their 25th anniversary, I visited the original location of Hooters in Clearwater, Florida. They were honored to have seen me (although they don't have a clue who I am).

Hooters I Have Known

Tonight was a non-Presidential Wings Thursday evening at Hooters Jacksonville Southside. It was Trivia Night, so the Hooters Girls, including my server Claudia, were hard to find. I was able to get a photo with the hostess.

Hooters 25th Anniversary Celebration - All Year Long

To celebrate Hooters Restaurants 25th anniversary, there are special fun activities and prizes the 25th of each month. The first 400 customers on the 25th of each month get a scratch-off card and if you uncover the six Hooters symbols with six scratch-offs (and no more) in the thirty squares, you can win $25,000. That's a good reason to go to Hooters. Paige was my Hooters Girl for the evening. I was also able to get a photo of Kimberly, the favorite of one of the fellows at work. I didn't win tonight but I have proof I was there trying.

Third Time Is Not The Charm *Or* No More Senior Moments

To avoid all of the liberal propaganda on teevee for the week, I'll be hiding out at the cinema. The cashier at Tinseltown must have determined that I'm not yet 62 because my ticket was full price tonight... no Senior Monday for me.

It was a great run while it lasted.

Tonight I saw The House Bunny... most appropriate.

Falling Leaf Rally 2007

The Gateway Riders BMW Motorcycle Club Of St. Louis held their 32nd annual Falling Leaf Rally in Potosi, Missouri in October 2007. I have attended this rally many times and am a member (in arrears) of the Gateway Riders. It's a great BMW motorcycle rally which is the last of the year for most folks. One of the features of the rally is the traditional Anvil Shoot... now two per rally. You can read more about the rally at http://www.gatewayriders.com/fl2008.htm.

Here are some of my photos and an anvil shoot video from the 2007 rally. I also attached a video where President Frank, a former Whizzer owner, explains the past workings of the Whizzer drive system to Elizabeth, daughter of the Whizzer dealer.

Fay Just Won't Leave Me

Hurricane / tropical storm / whatever they're calling it... FAY is lingering over Jacksonville and won't go away. This is the fifth consecutive day of heavy rain and thunderstorms. I'm beginning to feel that I'm somehow to blame for all of this... Fay just won't leave me.

I will make this offer... if your section of the country is in need of rain, I will travel to your town and bring Fay with me... for a fee. I hear that Denver hasn't had rain in a while. If I started driving now, Fay and I could make it there by Thursday. Just a thought.

Hurricane Fay Special Presidential Wings - Jacksonville, FL

Tonight's Presidential Wings was supposed to have guests from the Daytona Beach area in addition to several local BMW owners. Hurricane Fay took care of those plans. Wind up to 40mph closes bridges in Jacksonville. The storm was moving at 2mph, so it lingers longer in one place and drops a buttload of rain along its path. I dined alone. It happens. I arrived at the Hooters on San Jose Boulevard as the eye of the hurricane was over Jacksonville... not much in the way of rain. Hooters Girl Beverly made sure my soda did not run dry and the Buffalo Chicken Salad was great, as usual.

The Hooters Girl to my immediate left was at the Honda Bikini Bike Wash where I have additional photos and video of her.

Preparing For Hurricane Fay

The Googleplex removed the letters from the marquee.

Most logical.

There's A New Wing In Town

I have noticed bilboards for a wing restaurant in Jacksonville... WingHouse. The billboards look inviting... because of the meaty wings and variety of flavors. You can read about them at www.WingHouse.com .

For Presidential Wings, I'm looking for an additional alternate location. I've had several Presidents say that they would attend, but there is some stigma in dining at Hooters. I don't know why... it's a restaurant with a cheerleader / beach theme. But some family members (mostly wives) do not cotton to the idea that their man is hanging out with bumpy young wimmin. As Mrs. Bunny constantly reminds me, "those Hooters Girls are younger than your sons". Sure, I feel old when I'm around them, but as George Burns once said "I liked twenty-year-olds when I was twenty and I find I still like them today".

I ventured over to WingHouse to try what they had. I went for the wings first, but they have many other great items on their menu. The layout is much like Hooters with the WingHouse Girls dressed in a similar manner... shorts and tank tops in all black with the WingHouse logo. The furniture looks the same. There are television sets everywhere with sports programming from a variety of channels.

WingHouse Girl Stevie greeted me upon my arrival and served me well. I ordered the Extreme Hot wings with Cajun blackened spices. The consistency was different than the Hooters wings and were tasty in their own way. As I left for the Monday evening movie around the corner at the Googleplex, the staff and I gathered for the traditional photo. WingHouse is a winner. Look for a future Presidential Wings there sometime before the end of the year.
